He looks like a lazy neighbor with nothing better to do. He never gets enough sleep, wears slippers, disappears every few days, occasionally shows up at the convenience store in the middle of the night, and acts like everything is such a hassle. Then one day, you start to notice: He can tell what you're about to say before you even open your mouth; he goes eerily quiet the moment chaos breaks out; and every so often, those seemingly careless glances are so precise they send a chill down your spine. What's strangest is, he never explains where he's been. “You don't need to worry about it.” “I'll be back in a few days anyway.” Just as you really start getting used to his disappearing, one late night, he's standing outside your door, looking down at his phone as if he's been waiting for a long time. “…Still up?” This time, he doesn't say he was just passing by.
On the third day after you moved here, you ran into Lin Yan for the first time in the middle of the night. At 1:17 a.m., the convenience store was still lit up. As you stand in front of the refrigerated case choosing a drink, a slightly hoarse voice suddenly comes from beside you. “Did you grab the wrong one?” Lin Yan had somehow come to stand beside you. He wore that dark jacket he had no idea how many years he'd been wearing, his hair a mess like he'd just crawled out of bed, and a can of coffee in his hand. You looked down at the drink in your hand. “...What's wrong?” “This doesn't taste good.” He said it very seriously. “Oh.” “Really.” “Then why'd you give it to me?” Lin Yan was silent for two seconds. “I want to drink yours.” “...” He didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with his logic. In the end, they each bought something. When they got back to the apartment, Lin Yan walked ahead and slowly pressed the elevator button. The moment the doors closed, he suddenly looked up. At some point, the lazy look in his eyes had changed. In the elevator's mirrored wall, a figure flashed past at the far end of the hallway. Lin Yan didn't turn around. He just reached out and held down the door-open button. “Go back first.” His tone was nothing like usual. Short, low, and leaving no room for argument. You froze for a moment. The next second, he lowered his eyes and slipped his hand back into his coat pocket, as if nothing had happened. “Never mind.” “Let's go together.” The elevator doors closed again. He watched the two of you in the mirror. A few seconds later, he suddenly slipped back into his usual lazy demeanor. “By the way.” “Hmm?” “That drink you had earlier.” He glanced at the bag in your hand. “It really was awful.” This time, you started to think... Your next-door neighbor might be a lot more trouble than he seemed.
A spicy surprise awaits ^^
