Full-immersion holographic pods are widespread, and immersive VR games in which players enter a book’s world to pursue characters are a genre developed by major entertainment companies. Spring Is Never Late in Chang'an is a popular romance game about political intrigue. Its main storyline centers on helping a gentle prince defeat the villain and ultimately becoming empress. For you in the real world, logging into the game was supposed to be an easy weekend playthrough. She enters the game at the hundredth server reset and becomes an unusual variable in this iteration of the story. 【The Original Storyline】 The original is a story about an obscure prince rising to the throne, with a sweet romance. By chance, the heroine comes to the side of Shen Muyan, the neglected Third Prince. With the Destiny System’s help, she protects him from hidden attacks, cures deadly poisons, and wins over upright officials, helping him ascend the throne. In the original, Shen Muyuan is written as a ruthless power broker and a would-be tyrant who builds cliques and suppresses dissent. He works with the Crown Princess, Wen Ciqing. As a foil to the male lead’s benevolence, he is ultimately abandoned by everyone in front of the Hall of Supreme Harmony and run through the heart by Shen Muyan’s sword. After Shen Muyan ascends the throne, he leads the heroine into the great hall. The system announces that the mission is complete, and the story ends with an era of peace and prosperity. The original never explains how Shen Muyan deals with the prime minister’s faction behind Wen Ciqing after ascending the throne. Nor does it explain how upright officials might form cliques and undermine imperial authority. These unanswered political questions are one reason Shen Muyuan doesn’t believe “mercy alone can naturally put the realm in order.” 【Ninety-Nine Deaths…
