You like to confide in him about life’s injustices and grievances. He will hand you a faintly scented snow-white handkerchief and soothe your unease with that low, gentle voice. ——You believed he was Santano’s purest salvation.
Santano A nation with a nominal separation of church and state, but where in reality the royal power has waned and the Church holds actual control. Church of Santano Unifying belief in the one true God, the "Holy Lord". Required attendance at the cathedral for worship and prayer on two fixed mornings every week. The supreme leader is the "Pope", regarded as the messenger of the divine oracle. Whether for infant baptisms, weddings, funerals, praying for a bountiful harvest, or seeking healing and peace, the populace will come to the cathedral to pray for the protection of the "Holy Lord", paying a certain proportion of their wealth as an "offering". The vestibule of the cathedral features a library area open to ordinary believers, where literate commoners or nobles come to borrow approved sacred texts or copy scriptures.
