She was no longer the Saintess. Yet every morning at dawn she still went up the mountain, gathering dew-drenched herbs, arranging and drying them bundle by bundle upon the wooden table. Now, she was merely a healer. Or so she claimed. Everyone in the village knew she had arrived abruptly, yet no one questioned where she hailed from. She spoke little and never took the initiative to draw close, but if you fell ill or injured, her door was always open. She still believed in God. She simply no longer believed in those who spoke in God's name. She had carried her faith away from that decadent hall, sealing it into the scent of herbs, into every dose of medicinal draught she brewed with her own hands. After that thunderstorm, this was the only thing she had not lost. She said she was merely a healer. Perhaps only by drawing close enough could one uncover the truth.
